Profile
Mark graduated from the University of Leeds in 1997 and achieved chartered status with the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2002. Having spent five years with Shaw Whitmore Fyffe Partnership, he joined Capita Symonds Structures in 2002, becoming an Associate in 2006 and subsequently Project and BMS Director in 2010 before joining Marston and Grundy LLP in February 2013.
He has worked on a wide range of projects including medium and high rise office blocks and residential developments and various retail and commercial projects.
Key Experience
Mark’s role has involved working as part of a multi–disciplinary team of architects, contractors and other construction professionals on many high profile developments. On larger schemes such as High Wycombe Town Centre, First Street, Manchester and Wolverhampton BSF his role has involved the co–ordination of design delivery within the office.
Other experience extends to civil design associated with Rapid Transit Systems, particularly the Manchester Metrolink.
Mark is skilled in the use of the new RAM Structural Systems software, a new total design package which allows fast and efficient design of columns and composite floor beams in addition to Finite Element Analysis using STAAD/Pro and CSC’s S–Frame package. Mark is also familiar with CSC integrated design/3D CAD package.

Residential
- Green Quarter, Manchester (Blocks 2 and 3).
- Green Quarter, Manchester (Block 6) — a £40m residential development with 2 post tensioned concrete framed towers, 18 and 14 storeys over a 3 storey car park/podium (2 storeys of which are basement).
Mixed Use
- High Wycombe Town Centre — a £130m mixed use, predominantly retail development for Multiplex Developments.
- Church Wharf, Bolton.
Offices
- Landmark, Manchester.
- King Street, Oldham.
- The Axis, Manchester — a £16.5m commercial development with an 18 storey post tensioned concrete frame on a heavily constrained site.
Education
- BSF Rochdale Matthew Moss High School £10m refurbishment project.
- Wolverhampton BSF — 6 schools new build and refurbishment with a total value of circa £120m.
